Manchester Care & Repair is a charitable organisation supporting older, disabled and vulnerable people to live safely and independently in their own homes. Their Casework Team offers practical, housing-related help alongside welfare advice, digital inclusion support and wider referrals — reducing isolation and improving wellbeing across the Manchester area.
This report focused on the Casework Team’s impact between December 2022 and November 2024.
Karen from Turn Up The Value approached me to collaborate on an impact report for Manchester Care & Repair — a printed piece summarising two years of work from the charity’s Casework Team. The content was data-rich, grounded in real outcomes, and needed to be both professional and accessible.
The timescale was tight — with final copy and analysis arriving right up to deadline, and the complete layout design required in the final working days of January. My role was to shape that information into a clear, inviting format that respected the seriousness of the subject while allowing the impact to come through visually and emotionally.
The project began with a Zoom call between Karen and myself, followed by a meeting with Alice and Mike from Manchester Care & Repair. We aligned early on tone, visual references and expectations.
The initial brief was for a six-page report styled in line with the organisation’s website and Instagram. As content evolved, the scope expanded to twelve pages. I shared early layout drafts to lock in the visual direction before building out the full document.
To elevate clarity and engagement, I introduced custom icons and simple illustrations, extending the brand colour palette for added warmth. I also recreated the organisation’s logo in high resolution and transformed tabular data into more engaging, infographic-led layouts.
Imagery was sourced primarily from the Centre for Ageing site, carefully selected to reflect the tone of the stories and to represent the people the charity serves.
The finished report was a 12-page A4 document designed to feel warm, clear and human. By combining narrative, data and personal stories, the layout conveyed the depth and breadth of the Casework Team’s work over a two-year period.
Infographics and iconography made the content digestible, while full-colour imagery and subtle illustration added visual character without losing focus. The final PDF was supplied print-ready, with all assets recreated or refined where needed.
Following delivery, I’ve continued to support Manchester Care & Repair with design and print work across multiple touchpoints — including a service leaflet, branded letterhead, website graphics and a sub-brand identity with supporting materials.
